Yes, in the film it does tear off or move clothing and limbs to access the body, pulling the victim higher into the air to get the angle right (the victim was off her feet at one point actually hanging in mid-air while it was happening) and you can see the flesh indented where it's grasping or pressing against the victim. Mostly it seems very much like an invisible person, and it does actually open or slams doors to isolate the victim before an attack. Can't tell if it's doing it to psychologically harass the victim first, like letting them know it's about to happen but seems possible.
