Somewhere long before the events of Nelson V. Murdock/The Path of The Righteous, Karen accepts an offer to work for Fisk in some capacity, and apart from working for a scary murderer the terms of her hire are really, really nice. Karen can't figure out why -- if it's supposed to be an added incentive to keep her from thinking too hard about the massive sketchiness of this situation -- but unbeknownst to her it's just because she reminds Fisk of his mom.
