I'm reading this in fics more and more and not just by one specific author (but I think I know the one you're talking about, who is hella bad at hiding their anger at Matt for whatever reason). I'm not even sure if that author knows they're so consistent with it or you can see other things they've written and all of them are some weird level of Matt-bashing (and all the while praising Foggy as the second coming, etc). I can't tell if it's self-insert in a 'I would have made such better choices than you' or if it's just someone who thinks Foggy would have made such better choices than Matt, no clue.
