Matt and cooking

So I'm writing a story for a prompt here, and I've been asking myself about Matt's cooking skills. (And I mean the TV version of him.) When you look at his kitchen (from what we can see, at least), he does have utensils and spices, and seasoning, and things that look they're being used on occasion standing there on the counter. I mean, yeah, we know he can make an omelet or scrambled eggs, but how about a real meal?

The way I see it, this would go one of two ways. Either he's really great at it, because he's got that sensitive nose and sense of smell and taste, and he's frickin' fantastic at using those to create dishes that have an extraordinarily exquisite taste. He just doesn't usually cook, because, hey, it's just himself and he doesn't want to make the effort (which, as a single, I can relate to).

Or he's terrible at it, because he can't really tell when something's about to get burnt or the water is boiling over, or he's just not good at coordinating when to do what, and then in the end the potatoes are too hard, and the vegetables are too mushy.

Does anyone know if this is ever mentioned in the comics? What is your take on Matt's cooking skills?

he's apparently a really good chef? it comes into play in one of the Secret Wars Journals, but. eh. I think he'd make for a great chef, he just doesn't have the time or the inclination to make much more than scrambled eggs a lot. he'd probably save the gourmet cooking for when he has someone over.

OP here. Thanks. That's what I ended up using for my story. :-)

He's probably really intuitive at cooking, and would probably prefer to make his food himself when he has the time because he can control exactly what goes into it. He does look like he's got a lot of spices and things like that, and I've yet to meet someone who doesn't enjoy cooking or experimenting with food who bothers buying all that stuff.

OP here. Yeah, and I can totally see it. I must admit I don't actually like cooking, for several reasons, but mostly because I'm single. Cooking for yourself is boring and time consuming. I can also never get the timing right, and then things are all ready at the wrong times, and then the meat is cold while the vegetables are still boiling.

I'm really more of a dessert/baking person, and I do experimenting with that.

Obligatory (and not just bc I have a big gay crush on her) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_Ha

On the show she had a sighted helper to read labels and discern color, but it's unclear how often this happened due to editing. She mostly goes by smell and taste, her palate's supposed to be amazing. Matt would probably have all that and be to hear the molecules shifting around as the chemical properties of the food are altered by the cooking process. (But he could always let a friend help even if he doesn't need it)

Christine's also blogged about kitchen gadgets like talking scales, and done videos on how she uses social media or puts on makeup.

I headcanon Matt as being fab at cooking breakfast foods, and useless at anything else. So if you want breakfast for all three meals, then he's your guy.
But that's just me, so.
