He's involved with the Russians - human trafficking, kidnapping, (I think they also moved the drugs?)

The Chinese - producing drugs

The Yakuza - I don't remember what their role was. Toward the end, they wanted the city block where Mrs Cardenas lived.

Owlsley - He moved money around?

The Police - they killed people for Fisk? And other illegal things?

The newspaper - The editor of Ben's paper was working for Fisk.

(wow, I really need to rewatch the show. I guess I was too distracted by Matt's ass hahaha)

As far as I understand, evidence can be collected from an unconscious victim under the banner of "implied consent," (the same way there's "implied consent" that the victim wants the doctors to perform life-saving surgery on them, whereas normally someone would have to sign a consent for form).

However, the hospital is not allowed to release the rape kit to police, and they must destroy the rape kit if that's what the victim tells them to. The hospital might also choose to wait until the victim regains consciousness to let them decide, as forensic evidence can usually be gathered within 5 days of a sexual assault. There are some ethical issues surrounding this and not every hospital will make the same choice. The victim must give consent for forensic exam, as well as physical exam, pictures, whether their clothes are taken, testing for HIV or drugs, etc.

As for the police, unless the adult victim has been shot, stabbed, burned, or is part of a "vulnerable group" (as you said, elderly, a minor, or someone with a cognitive disability, or someone that's being care for by a caretaker), there's no reason for a hospital to contact police without the victim's consent. That's really illegal. (A victim can still do a rape kit and/or speak with the hospital's rape crisis advocate/councillor and still choose not to speak to police. The advocate can't speak to police or anyone else about what the victim says without the victim's consent either).

AYRT

Ben's editor wasn't working for Fisk though? He wasn't arrested in the clean up in the final episode; another woman in the office was. He just stood there and watched it happen.

But Fisk is definitely an accomplice in all those crimes, yeah. But the crime he's arrested for was racketeering.

Thanks! :-D

One more question though. Is calling 911 considered the same as reporting a rape to the police?

Like, if Foggy called up 911 and said "I think my friend's been raped," the police would be obligated to respond (along with paramedics), right?

I mean, Matt's not obligated to actually talk to them, but wouldn't that make police involved at least initially? y/n?

As an American on the west coast, I do say cinema often, and I've certainly never heard it called snooty. It's just a way to distinguish between cinemas/movie theaters versus live acting venues. Can't speak for the rest of the country, though.

Things series Matt can do vs comics Matt?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I know a lot of people call on the comics for info on Matt's abilities, and a lot don't. I'm reasonably familiar with the comics and I think I just about understand Matt's abilities as portrayed there, but do you think they are supposed to be the same in the series, or different?

Putting aside the whole 'world on fire' thing that doesn't really make any sense and in my head is just Matt trying to be poetic and put things into a context that Claire can understand. Does he have the radar sense that he has in the comics, or does he rely entirely n his sense of hearing, touch, taste and smell to 'see' the world? In the comics he can read most text pretty easily by simply feeling the raised area where the ink in on the page or the indentations a pen has made. Can he do that in the series? I know he touches the map in episode...8? I think? And it looks like he might be getting a sense of what;s on there, but do you write him as actually able to read print in this way or not?

I guess what I'm asking (because there is probably no definitive answer until there is more series for us to gather data from) is what is your take on it. I'm especially interested to hear from anyone who has no knowledge of the comics to find out what kind of an impression you got of his abilities from the series alone? But I'm equally interested in what everyone else thinks.

I personally prefer a less-powered Matt. I only think he should be able to finger-read handwriting and a limited number of print styles. Too many modern methods of print don't leave any differences to read.

Also, I'm with you on his "world on fire" ...I just think it's the mental image his brain builds of all of the other sensory input, and it's "on fire" because of the less precise, constantly shifting input of sound and smell and air movement.

Trying to compare him to comics Matt can be extra difficult because (like many comic book superheroes) his abilities in the comics are pretty inconsistent. For example, in the very second issue, he navigates and flies a rocket back to earth from outside of the atmosphere, and lands it in a park in New York.

Regarding the map in episode 8, the narrator that does the descriptive audio makes a point to say he's "reading" the map by touching it (which I'm choosing to ignore, because it wasn't embossed).

help finding a fill?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
hey folks!

i've been trying to find a kinda old fill that really loved, but i've had no luck so far. It's kind of like a fuck or die prompt, and the filler wrote this beautiful story where foggy & someone (related to a N & M case?) are kidnapped. Matt goes to save them as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, and the baddie makes Matt give Foggy a blowjob (this is before Foggy knows that Matt's the Devil). It's hot as hell and super angsty. I will love you forever if you could help me find this :)

generally I prefer to think that "world on fire" is just Matt being dramatic. again. really it's sort of like. he has radar sense, yeah, which is seriously useful in a fight, and his enhanced senses help for him to be able to at least put a coherent picture together, but with all the advances in printing he can't really read printed things by just running his hands over them.

I figure he could "read" handwritten notes, but only if they leave an impression. printed? ha.

his sense of touch is p sensitive in the series (cotton is sandpaper, apparently), but I'd guess probably not as sensitive as 616!Matt, who at one point in Daredevil: Yellow manages to bend bars bc he can tell where the weak spots in the metal are.

Ne Bis In Idem by PriscaMachado is amazing. It's still a WIP and updates pretty slowly, but it's incredibly well written. Synopsis is "The one in which the ‘world on fire’ slips from his grasp, and all that is left is the oblivion of darkness, silence and scattered thought." and it is every bit as intense as that implies. Read it, it's amazing and not getting anywhere near the comments and kudos that it deserves! (I'm hoping that getting more will lead to faster updates!!)

Just a quick 2 cents: There are some modern (I think some laser?) printers that leave the ink slightly raised compared to the paper, to the point that even I can feel that there are letters on the page, though I can't really tell what it reads.

That's true. I can totally see him being able to read that, though i imagine braille would be a hell of a lot easier!

Fic plotting help please?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so I wanna write a fic in which Matt is cursed to always tell the truth and have absolutely no one believe him. I've got the reveal scene written in which Foggy asks him if he's really blind and the curse makes him walk out, but I've got absolutely no idea where to go from there. I know I don't want him to lose his law license, but kinda want everything else to fall apart, so help?

Re: Fic plotting help please?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Why does the curse make Matt walk out?

Re: Fic plotting help please?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, it's Foggy who walks out because the curse makes him think Matt's lying. Sorry, that was ambiguous.

So it's going to be set during the season, just that Matt has the curse?

Re: the chatroom?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
So that was kind of a success? It was awesome hanging out with you guys!

For next week, we might try something a little different.

As a general meeting time, we'll start at 6 PM UTC/GMT+0 on Sat (25th Jul) and go for 6 hours (check out this page to find out what time it is for you http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=dd+chatroom+meeting+time+&iso=20150725T18&p1=1440&ah=6)

6 hours is a long time, and I'm sure as hell not going to be there from 4 am my time, so if you're not there when it starts but still want to join in the fun, I propose a second meeting time halfway through (9 PM UTC/GMT+0), so there's a guarantee that there'll still be people in there about halfway through, who'll probably stick it out to the end of the 6 hours.

Hopefully that'll mean more people are able to get in when there are people!
