As one of the people whose prompts were filled, I say: Thank you so much! These were great! (As someone who is very, very tired of scrolling past slavery stuff, I say the exact same thing.)

Re: How to avoid prompt hijacking/veering into other directions

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Plus, like, as a writer and a prompter, I get so many more ideas with the culture of 'commenting on everything/taking the fills in new directions/filling out gaps in fills'. It's fun and often produces a chain just as enjoyable as a fill itself.

You're welcome! I'm glad you liked my little fill (whichever it was). I just wanted to give a gift to the meme in my free time and this is all I could offer. =)

Hey! It is Christmas morning here and while I'm busy for most of the morning and afternoon, if anyone has any prompts they want to link I will still try to fill them tonight.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays all.

DAREDEVIL SECRET SANTA FICS ARE LIVE!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
So I decided to play Santa and release the fics into the wild a full three hours early!

http://archiveofourown.org/collections/DD_SecretSanta_2015

They are all in the collection. Just as a reminder to the participants, if your Secret Santa was a fill for a kink meme prompt, you may want to link it on the appropriate prompt here and put it up on the Complete fills post!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE! Enjoy your gifts, and a massive, incredible thank you to the 31 other people who participated.

I'm planning a post-New Years challenge that I hope is just as well-received, and I really appreciate all of your amazing fills and crazy level of enthusiasm for this exchange. :D

Out of curiosity, because this is my first time doing one of these: What do our replies to any comments look like? I mean, are those anonymized (or whatever the real word might be) as well?

Any replies that you make as an anon author will say "Anon Creator" until the author reveal in the New Year! So reply away! :D

AYRT: Awesome!

...says an author who hasn't even gotten a kudos yet, let alone a comment. I'm just dreaming.

Oh, I didn't know that, and replied anonymously, but I guess that works too. :-)

Also, anon, you should consider that your recipient may be living in the European time zone or similar and not get to your fic until later today. I didn't see my fill until about an hour ago when I woke up. (A fill that I loved, btw. ALL THE LOVE for this exchange!)

Thank you so much for organizing and running the exchange!! I was super happy with both my prompt and my fill, and I will definitely want to participate in other Dd exchanges (with the possible exception of a Big Bang).

What to do if you didn't like your gift-fic /promt's fill / secret santa:

(Anonymous) 2015-12-27 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Pretend. Say you love it anyway. Thank the author. Leave a kudos.

Seriously, it's not that difficult.

+1

And letting the author know it wasn't what you expected? Rarely necessary. Unless it's in the context of "I never expected something this awesome!!!"

Bless the folks going around commenting on things that recipients haven't gotten to yet. They are good people <3

WIP nesting chaos

(Anonymous) 2015-12-28 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps a little tutorial on how to post subsequent chapters of a fic so that they do not get lost in mountains and valleys of comments would be a good idea?
There are tons of fics out there that are absolutely fabulous but so hard to follow because all you see is
...(anonymous) expand
...(anonymous) expand
...(anonymous) expand
...(anonymous) expand
From what I've observed, a great way to keep chaotic nesting under control is to post each new chapter as a reply under the original first chapter, then each new chapter stays at the same nesting level as the previous one. <3
(And should anyone decide to post a second fill to the prompt, then at least your story will be contained under the first chapter you posted.)

Ohhh. That's a good idea.

Damn it, I've already started posting though. :P Next time!

Matt's characterization - comics VS MCU?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm curious, where do you see the differences between his characterization in the comics and the MCU? In your own stories, do you sometimes let them bleed into each other, or use the comics as a helping guideline when you're not sure how Matt would likely react in a given situation? Do you have a version of Matt you prefer?

Re: Matt's characterization - comics VS MCU?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely blend them together.
There are so many versions of Matt in the comics that it is easy to come up with different reactions all the time. For example, Waid's Murdock is so different than Miller's Murdock.
I think the root of his personality remains mostly the same though. He has a temper. He has depressive/manic episodes. He needs Foggy to keep him grounded. No relationship ever ends well. He is self sacrificing. And he loves being Daredevil. (and sometimes he is a complete ass, lol)

Re: Matt's characterization - comics VS MCU?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The version of Matt that I prefer...
It's a blend. I love MCU Matt.
I love his day-old stubble and hairy face, how he is a little shabby. He teases Foggy and feeds him to the sharks with a smile.
He is a worry wart when it comes to his friends- "You can't do this! there are bad people out there!". I love that when Foggy and Karen confess to running around at night with mace and a baseball bat he has a fit.
I love that he's all beaten up and an barely move and decides he's going to take on Fisk anyway because his temper is up and he has no idea how badly injured he is and he does not know how to STOP.
I think the core of his being is - he always gets back up no matter what. He doesn't know how to stop fighting.
I love that as Daredevil he gets muggers off the street, and that as Matt Murdock he is a defence attorney
I love that others see Matt Murdock as Foggy's sidekick.

---

Comic wise.. I do not like when they mess with the key story.
I like Hell's Kitchen Daredevil.
I don't like when he pushes Foggy away.
I don't like when he isn't a defence attorney.
I enjoyed the happy nature of Waid's run, but at the same time those stories were so... I don't know. Fanfic is often so much better and more believable than the comic runs. Weird, right?
But then in the comics there are parts that are absolutely fabulous, little moments that stand out. But sadly for the most part- I really prefer the MCU and the fanfic we make here over the comics.
I think I may be a little burnt at how they took the fluffy ending from Waid's run and turned it into... something else entirely. I don't trust comics. (but I did work in a comic store for 10 years! Never trust the damn cover is what I came away with from that.)

Re: Matt's characterization - comics VS MCU?

I think that as others have stated, different comics writers characterize Matt differently.

The version of Matt closest to MCU is Brian Michael Bendis'. That version of Matt is just an epic mess, but he tries so hard to keep it together and is just overwhelmed all the time. He also has the strongest, best characterization of his relationship with Foggy similar to the MCU - Foggy frequently calls him out on his shit, and steps up to the plate to help Matt as best he can but also gets into his own trouble. That Matt is super flirtatious with his future wife, Milla, in the way we see Matt be in the MCU but also is impulsive, way too attached to the suit and being Daredevil, and doesn't listen to anyone else before diving head first into a bad idea.

Waid's Daredevil embodies all the most charming, cheeky and egotistical aspects of Matt. Like, he's sexy and he knows it, basically. And Waid's run portrays his friendship with Foggy with the most warmth and compassion between them.

So it kind of depends of what version of Matt you're looking for which comics you enjoy and how much you blend him with the MCU Matt in fic, really.

I will say that, a bit off-topic, I super enjoy the comics characterization of Foggy a lot even if I find the MCU version better written and more consistent. And damn I wish that Elden would get to rock a porkpie hat and bowtie at some point. Foggy in the comics is my style icon.

Also, I suspect that Soule's Matt will be closer to Bendis' characterization than Waid's, since he already in just the one issue appears to be kind of a full-on trainwreck who has secluded himself in an elevator shaft and seems to have put the gas pedal on his Daredeviling and rage issues. So it should be interesting to see where the comics take him now, even if I understand that some people aren't feeling the huge departure in tone and style.
