I think it has a lot to do with Matt/Foggy becoming the juggernaut.
But again, I needs stats! D:

Prompt Freeze? Wut? Already?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not read a single prompt from the latest round. (Okay, maybe I read the first like 5 way, way back when)

So I'm SUUUPPPERRR. Behind. I feel like I'll never catch up.

Would any nonnies link me to any prompts about Claire, Karen, Santino, Brett, Natasha, Steve, or Sam Wilson? I'm looking for prompts to add to my "to be filled one day hoard.)" and wading through all that Matt/Foggy isn't feasible for me right now. :)

Re: writing non english dialouge

I've written a fic that was about half Spanish but really the point of it for me was to sement a friendship between me and my native Spanish speaking friend. I think it's a really cool sort of bonus. Also, my sister had a lot of fun reading it (and she hates fanfic) just because she sort of has a grasp on the language.

So even though I know it is a very not popular fic for being so Spanish I don't really care. I do feel bad for the person I wrote the fic as a fill for though. haha. but you know, getting filled doesn't ganrantee quality.

Here's a few from the first 6 pages. It's definitely not all, but I'm on my phone and on a deadline.
I'm also assuming you'd like ones that aren't solely about those characters, but they play a good sized part (like pirate AUs and such) would you also like Any/Matt, Any/Any prompts?

Do you know what drives me a little crazy tho?

People who whinge about not getting any comments on their fics who don't even bother commenting on the fics written by their regular commenters.

Like, it's called networking y'all. You gotta engage to be engaged with.

If someone comments on your stuff and you read their fics too, don't just leave a kudos, leave a goddamn comment. Tell them what you enjoyed about the chapter.

Also, REPLY to the comments people leave for you. I understand the idea behind not wanting to "pad" the comment count, but it makes me feel like the author doesn't give a damn whether people read or comment on their fic or not when they don't bother to interact with their fanbase.

OP here. Hm, to be honest, I've never considered AO3 a site for networking. Cause quite honestly? I wouldn't read a fic that doesn't sound like something that'd interest me just because the author left a comment on my fic.

But, yes, it's always cool if you see your "regulars" in the list of comments, and it's even more exciting if it's someone whose stories you've read and liked or loved. And it has definitely happened that I have read things that I would normally not read because I had previously interacted with the author, but for me that only goes this far.

What I can definitely say, though, is that I always make an effort to leave kudos and a comment on a story that I really liked. Because I know just how much that matters to you as an author.

And I also always try to reply to the comments left on my stories, if only just to say "thanks for commenting". However, I've also read somewhere that some AO3 authors don't like doing that because it may be interpreted as trying to skew your comment count upwards. Which I personally don't see as relevant, but I can also understand the validity of that notion.

See, the thing is, I don't have a lot of spare time next to my pretty demanding full time job. And I like to spend the precious amount I have on writing things that I'm interested in. And pretty much all of the Dd ones aren't on that list. While I like the idea of the fic challenge and its intention to appreciate the underrepresented characters more, it's just not something I'm personally invested in.

Re: kinkmeme karma

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
OP - Yeah, okay, that makes a certain kind of sense. Guess I'm just projecting from myself onto others here, cause a) I would always thank someone who wrote something for me, even if I don't like the content. Cause they took time out of their schedule to actively do something I requested, and b) because I'm actually pretty organized and have a list of my prompts that I go through every now and then to see if they got a response I may have missed.

But, yeah, people are very different, and sometimes it doesn't hurt to be reminded of that.

SA - Gah, okay, that was crap coherence in my previous post. What I wanted to say is:

And pretty much all of the minor Dd characters aren't on that list [of things that I'm interested in writing about].

don't worry anon, keep filling as much as you can and remember to link them in the complete post!!XD (says the one who posted like 35+ prompts and got 3 fills and cannot write nor art lol)

as far as the slowing down I agree with what others said: it's totally normal, and actually, I'm surprised we got this far and there's still lots of prompts that get tons of replies so... i think it's all right.

Re: Recast Foggy?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a lot of interviews with Elden because I liked Foggy and I wanted to know what the actor was like behind the character. TBH my first impression of Foggy was not good. I mistook him for Jack Black at first and the acting kind of cemented it for a few minutes? I was so D: at first. And I know they shot some episodes out of order and maybe it had a lot to do with the Matt/Foggy relationship but I really reallllly appreciated Nelson vs Murdock; I was buying Elden as Foggy by then. But his after S1 interviews? Yeah, he comes off as a little blase, a little indifferent, with the exception of one where they asked him if he liked the new DD suit (augh, not even a question about Foggy, but about DD!) and poor Elden kind of lit up a little and said yeah, everybody on set was all about the new DD suit and he said that he really wanted to try it on but they only made it in one size and Elden said he was too fat to fit into it. :( :( :( iirc he said something similar in another interview previously, except he said that he'd had too many donuts at the craft table and the DD suit was a sample size, way too small for him, but he laughed. And the second interview where he says he was 'TOO FAT' he was smiling but he seemed also a little challenging about it?

Look, OP, I hope he's not a jerk in his after S2 interviews, I really do, I hope he doesn't do the red carpet premiere thing again about DD being just a paycheck but if he does, well, it's cool, he's an actor, we don't all love our jobs, either, and he's entitled to be a normal guy. Fandom won't love him for it, that's for sure, but he's entitled to his opinions. I mean, he said some really appreciative things about Charlie Cox's amazing ass lol so I don't think Elden would have a problem with the Matt/Foggy stuff if he ever got harassed about it, and he seems to be sensitive to gendered issues, so as long as he's not a raging asshole, I'm sure fandom will still appreciate him in the role, yknow? Hey, at least Foggy is a ray of sunshine even if Elden isn't.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for this, nonny. I've heard about 6 different interviews with Charles recently and he said a lot of the same things he said to you, so I'm just hoping and praying that we like the new Matt. Charles definitely sounds really jazzed about it, but in one interview he said he was rethinking himself more writing this run of DD than he ever has before. Mostly because he's worried about filling some really big shoes, a lot of Eisner winners who have written DD before him. I wish him well, I hope he does well, because I want to see a new take on Matt, yesss. I'm only a little concerned that Foggy will be present but not quite so accountable? I'm not sure what that means. :\

Re: Foggy = Self-insert?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Matt's the fantasy, Foggy's the reality.

nayrt but that's a really good point, nonny, and I agree. A friend and I were commiserating this weekend that if Matt were ours, we'd eventually strangle him ourselves because he's noble and hot and a hero and all that but him coming close to dying every other day would get so old, so quick. If you're in love with Matt and you're not a superhero like him where you get to go out and protect him or help him, your life is a bundle of nightly fear and anger and tears and blood and worry and stress. That's the reality of Matt Murdock. Beautiful creature, but Foggy would be a million times easier to have an ordinary relationship with.

I do think Foggy's become the self-insert character because his characterisation has become consistently wildly so far away from canon that he's not even recognisable as the guy I adore on the show, and that never speaks well of the canon character. Why such a need to write him so drastically different if you love FOGGY ON THE SHOW, you know? I appreciate an AU as much as the next fan, but how is it most Foggys in fic are AU Foggys? Maybe I'm just a little sad because I love the Matt and Foggy relationship, I even love reading Matt/Foggy, but it seems a lot of time it ends up Matt/X when Foggy is so weirdly different from the show. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

Re: Foggy = Self-insert?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
it follows that the characters the fandom is most likely to latch onto are going to be the most interesting ones

I'm chuckling, not at you but because DARCY. The 'fandom bicycle', because she's bland, cute and adorable and fun and lightness and rainbows made flesh et al, vaguely fleshed out just enough for fans to use her as a self-insert meat suit into any and all fandoms. I'm sorry but your argument doesn't hold water in light of Darcy, the fandom cockroach who will outlast popularity of Marvel itself.

Where is Matt getting his money?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Nelson & Murdock are barely open, they have no money, Foggy talks about money to keep the lights on in the office, right? But I'm familiar with fashion and tailors and the suits Matt Murdock is wearing on the show are bespoke. At the very least he's wearing something made to measure him perfectly. I'm sure it was the costumers who decided to put him in a $3K suit but they... meant to do it, they wanted you to notice it. You can't look at everything about his suits (specifically the one he uses in court) and tell me it wasn't tailored to fit. Look at the bloody light play on the gorgeous finished wool of the jacket, the detail stitching, and the way it fits perfectly across his shoulders but still cuts so sharply to his waist and keeps the correct lengths against his hips and wrists? The slim cut trousers that actually fit his fat butt, narrow waist, and still stretch and drape well over those ridiculous thighs? Costumers tailored that for Charlie, yes, but in-universe who made the suits for Matt? His Oxford button-downs are nice, too. I'd bet money they're some long-loomed fibre anyway, dense but soft. NOT CHEAP. Yknow, that's the thing, look at the way Foggy's suit hangs on him a little, there is some ill-fitted shoulder drop and the oversized thing is happening and that material is obvs cheaper; all interesting and meaningful considering Foggy has much more whimsy and flair in his colour/style than Matt. Foggy is trying to present well with very little money while Matt's fashion sense is very classic, more serviceable and practical, more muted and utilitarian which, yeah, the guy is blind, I get it, so why such a money wardrobe? Daytime armour like the trademark glasses he hides his blind eyes behind? What else were we supposed to get from his expensive suits?

His shoes, otoh, are so cheap leather and soft-soled and don't match his tailored suit at all, and I'm not sure if that's supposed to be because he's blind and/or because he's Daredevil and needs to go parkouring his ass all over the rooftops at any given time and can't be bothered to wear sewn leather welt soles and slippery heels when he's doing it. My question about all this? WHERE is Matt getting the money for all his stuff (AND HIS FLAT, which Matt admits is expensive, and his silk freaking sheets, and and and) if his only job is being a defence lawyer and they have no clients yet? Foggy is crying about money all the time (and we don't even get to see where Foggy lives!) but Matt is not, and it seems Stick took the money Matt's father left him when Matt was a child? Matt doesn't have any family to sport him dosh for uni or anything else; this isn't the Matt in comics where he was struggling super hard in uni for every spare dollar, and this isn't the older Matt in comics who is established as a badass lawyer and making a decent wage (him wearing Jay Kos suits is canon, yo). So where is MCU Matt getting all his money? Did I miss this explanation in the show somehow? Has somebody already asked this question and I missed the answer? I feel like I'm either missing something obvious or I'm the only one looking at his tailoring.

Matt doesn't actually pay Melvin for the Devilsuit, they barter for it, but everything else Matt has, even his accessibility tech and all the canes he tosses away into random dumpsters, it all costs serious money. Foggy even calls Matt on his burnerphone, ffs, because obvs Foggy is paying attention to money like someone who doesn't have any, while Matt seems to have a relationship with money like someone who is used to having it. He should be dressed worse than Foggy; at least Foggy has a mess of family to help him out with money when he needs it. Matt's either a rent boy, a verrry active rent boy, or he has a legit patron helping him out for some reason. I really want to point at an overly-invested sugar daddy somewhere and until someone comes up with a better answer, I'm just sticking to that. But if you guys have any ideas on this, pleeeeease, enlighten me!

Debt.

Lots and lots of Debt.

I bet Matt and Foggy's credit scores really suck.

I think that Matt wouldn't really have student loans to pay off- he seems like the sort who would have gotten a full ride through university and law school based on merit and financial aid.

As for everything else though. Your guess is as good as anybody's. My guess is debt up to the gills.

Re: Where is Matt getting his money?

i figured maybe it came out of his dad's inheritance? but you're right, anon, matt's quality of life is incredibly nice for a guy who takes as many cases pro bono as he does. reminds me of how sherlock holmes could live in a quality apartment and purchase tons of scientific specimens, etc, with little to no sizeable income, but at least he had a wealthy older brother and family to explain how he could afford all that.

Re: Where is Matt getting his money?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
SA here but also foggy's presentation really threw me off because i know THE LAST THING about clothing but i was looking at some costumers' notes and articles on the wardrobing of the show and the button ups they use for foggy are, like, REALLY expensive? i'd be willing to bet his ties are expensive too because the costumers were looking for one-of-a-kind neckties, plus he uses a custom tie clip that i can only hope belonged to another relative whose name begins with F because it has a little "F" embossed on it, it's ridiculous. both matt and foggy seem to have problems when it comes to splurging on wardrobe.

and don't even get me started on karen, man, i get this is a tv show but a lot of her wardrobe comes with a price tag more suited to the salary of a businesswoman, not a secretary.

I don't have any answers, but your knowledgeable ranting on tailoring and fashion makes me want to throw myself into your arms and beg for you to whisper sweet nothings about the history of menswear.

Erm, I mean your attention to detail and analysis of costume choices is really impressive and hearing people talk about their passions is super cool
