Defenders-only Discussion Post

This post is for prompts involving everyone in Netflix's The Defenders! Crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go here. Prompts only including characters from one show should still go on the relevant show prompt post.

Rules:
  • General
    1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. If you don't like something, scroll on.

    2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

    3. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).

    4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2017 TV show in some way.

    5. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

  • Prompts
    1. All types of prompts are welcome.

    2. Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).

    3. Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

  • Fills
    1. Put [FILL] or something similar in the subject line when posting a fill.

    2. Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.

    3. Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.

    4. Multiple fills are always okay.

    5. Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.

  • Please post any prompts related to Season 2 of Punisher over on the dedicated Punisher prompt post, and put SPOILERS in the subject line!

Defenders reacting to Danny's time in the monastery

Danny is telling the other Defenders about his time in the monastery and they are wondering about how he doesn't realize how abusive it was. They are disturbed by how much fondness he seems to have for it. Then they are trying to get him to understand it was very abusive.

Omg I know right? Other people have mentioned it being abusive before but Danny just plays it off. I'm pretty sure he's suffering from Stockholm Syndrome or something. And that's why he struggles to control his emotions, because he never had a safe and healthy outlet for them before. Especially since he was taught that emotions are distractions that interfere with your focus.

I need the other defenders convincing him that what they did was abuse. And that he's allowed to be angry at them for it.

this is actually kind of interesting character wise becuase from what i remember they all have a really different experience with physical abuse.

Luke (from what I remember) doesn't really have any first hand experience with it. His dad was kind of a shit husband but there isn't an indication that he was physically abusive to his wife, mistress, or children. So for Luke abuse as a concept is sort of emotionally distant in that it doesn't relate to his personal life. It's wrong because it's wrong, because he was nine and how could hurt a child like that. But it's not trigger visceral gut reactions.

Jessica on the other hand watched her adopted sister/best friend be physically abused by a parental figure for years. It obviously personally effected her and their relationship in the show. She was then emotionally and mentally abused by Killgrave. But there was a pretty clear line between good and bad and love and abuse in those situations. For Jessica abuse is wrong because I have seen it and I have felt it and I know how awful it is. It's a much more immediate and much more emotional.

Then there's Matt whose got a much more complex relationship with his abuser. Because Stick was abusive, physically and emotionally and he fucked Matt up and Matt knows it. But that's not all Stick was. Stick also saved him, gave him purpose and agency and power and control that he didn't know how to access before. By Stick's death Matt knew that Stick cared about him as awful and fucked up as he was. It's a much more confusing tangled feeling. So Matt gets Danny sometimes, like who cares if they hurt you a little as long as they cared, as long as what you got back was of equal value to what you lost (Matt just isn't exactly sure what Danny got from them).

I don't really know where I was going with that. just it'd be interesting to see how their different personal histories would shape their reactions to hearing about abuse.
