Danny's still not able to see what the monks did to him as abuse; as really noticeable in episode 4, when he just sort of followed once Stick showed up, he's still in the 'follow orders/respect the older warriors' headspace & hasn't really processed either the loss of K'un Lun/the culture he was raised in, much less realized that how he was raised was incredibly unhealthy.
Matt, along with the other Defenders/supporting characters, tries to bring some nuance into Danny's worldview--at the same time he's classifying Stick (and Elektra's) relationships with him as 'complicated' and making excuses for them. Cue him getting called on it (I'd love by Foggy, Jessica, or Claire, but whomever, or as a team effort, is fine).
