This is all great! I was thinking along the lines of your first point, too. Matt's emotional outburst to Frank can't be apropos of nothing (or well, it could, but I don't see it being).
Your idea about Matt getting involved with a local gang after leaving Stick is great! And that could very well be why he's thinking back now (not that he ever stopped), or... Maybe Roscoe Sweeney comes out to play. I always figured Elektra must have gone back to deal with him or something, because if not, what's he been up to for the last however many years not sending anyone after Matt? (For that matter, if the police got him, how comes no one questioned Matt or anything? I can see Sweeney not making his name, I guess, if he wants to deal with Matt himself.)
This is kind of derailing, and I saw there's a part 4 I'm going to read as soon as I send this comment, but I'll still say: the added angst of Elektra inciting ex-killer-Matt to kill his father's killer.
