Instead of having someone's name tattooed on their skin, or start seeing colors, or having their first phrases, etc, soulmates, upon meeting one another, get super powers. Mostly this is a benign thing, like civilian-level mutant powers, but occasionally you get the literal power couple that become super heroes or villains.

Meet Matt Murdock, who must have crossed paths with his soulmate in the hospital or something, cause, super-senses. He's comes to terms with never knowing his soulmate (not really, never really), when one day he meets Any. Turns out, in a world where people randomly get powers, his senses came from a chemical spill, not his soulmate. Huh...

Bonus if the idea of his soulmate meeting him and leaving him at 9 is a big part of Matt's abandonment issues.

Bonus if Matt's new super power seems like it's a benign or useless power, but he manages to make Daredevil extra terrifying using it.
