...did i mention that foggy doesn't, actually, call matt in the middle of the night? because all of matt's phones ring with the names of the people who are calling - ("FOGGY. FOGGY. FOGGY. KAREN. KAREN. KAREN." shouting out to the beat of Matt's heart where anyone, literally anyone, can hear.) and he never knows where Matt is or who might be able to hear Matt's phone. They had (another - jesus, they've never fought this much before, it is killing foggy) a fight about it. Matt wouldn't give Foggy all the details but the terror in his voice when he tells Foggy that no one can know how they're connected - that's real.
So they compromised, by which Foggy means he gave ground because he was still reeling, still caught in the undertow of Matt's secrets. Foggy doesn't call Matt at night. Matt calls Foggy the minute he gets back to his apartment every night (so help me god, murdock) and lets him know that he made it back safe.
(*whimpers* this is so distressing oh god matt & foggy are both still distressed about this. i wrote this and then i thought: but claire! matt's burner phone doesn't shout CLAIRE CLAIRE when she calls. pretend that matt made the executive decision that he would never carry a phone with all the numbers of the people who were important to him while he was daredeviling, because that's asking for trouble.)
