ARGH, ok earlier in the thread i took part in a discussion reg. matt, violent-maladapted-dude-trying-really-hard-to-be-good, and idk, I was thinking about that, giving myself The Feels, when i realized.
like. one of the big "get a handle on your ptsd attacks/anxiety attacks/whatever" tricks (that I got taught, anyways) was using sensory input to ground yourself. feeling panicky and weird? touch a thing! smell a (good) thing! get back into your body by paying attention to your senses, y'know?
did matt get taught that, in his trauma group? does it work? is one of the reasons he mentions a trauma group in the past but we never see him going or talking about a current group or therapist in the show? maybe they gave him those kind of tips, he found them useless, with his hyped-up senses, decided all of modern psychiatric care was useless, and moved on?
