Karen, Matt and Foggy are taken by the goons of bad guys they're currently fighting in court, in order to threaten them to take the case. Matt can't fight back without risking revealing to them and Karen who he is (they're also enemies of Daredevil) and Foggy's badly hurt in the scuffle and in obvious need of medical attention. The goons are roughing Karen up but they've been told not to hurt any of them anymore until the boss comes around.

Karen, thinking on her feet, away from seeming earshot of Matt (not realizing he can hear her) offers to entertain them until then, if they just get Foggy the help that he needs. Someone willing is going to be more fun than someone unwilling, right? Karen gets taken to another room and--

Matt has to hear and smell everything, while pretending to be passed out and hoping for a chance to intervene before it's too late.

He doesn't get that chance until Karen comes back. She doesn't want to talk about it, but Matt already knows everything, because he heard it.
