So S2 is coming in March! And as excited as we all are, I’m sure we’re all sad that it means that older prompts on the meme might just get forgotten about. So, this challenge is designed to keep us all inspired for the next couple of months, highlight the very best prompts on the meme for newbies and people who come post-S2 and want to get in the wayback machine, and just be fun for everyone!

There are multiple ways to participate in this challenge, even if you’re only a reader or lurker!

1. NOMINATE PROMPTS AND DISCUSS NOMINATIONS

This challenge is about discovering the hidden gems, forgotten about favourites, and most talked about, inspiring ideas hidden in the 6,000+ prompts on this meme and distilling them down to the favourites, the best of the best.

We need you to nominate your favourite unfilled prompts (from Prompt Post #1 to Prompt Post #8) across the following 21 subcategories:

You must choose only one category even if it fits into multiple categories (so an AU doesn’t have to go into the AU category, or an Ableism prompt doesn’t have to go there but can be considered hurt/comfort, for example). You don’t have to be the OP of the original prompt. You can nominate as many prompts as you’d like in as many categories as you’d like.

How does your nomination rise to the top?

Well, if it’s the only one in its category, it’s the winner by default. But if it’s not, a points system will be applied as follows:

1 point - each brief comment seconding the nomination (+1, seconded, *camping out*, etc.)
2 points - each additions to the prompt (suggestions on what could happen, conversation even if it veers OT that’s related, etc.) and comments on those additions
3 points - each mini-fill completed on the fill under 1000 words

This applies only to the new repost thread. What does this mean? Encourage people to second your nomination! And second others nominations if you want them to win too! We want to ensure that the prompts that win are the ones that everyone is really excited to see filled.

If it gets filled, fantastic! It will be disqualified from being nominated, but everyone’s happy because someone filled it! :D

2. SIGN UP AS A WRITER OR MULTIMEDIA FILLER

We are looking for writers, fan artists, or other multimedia artisans willing to commit to participating in the challenge from February 1 - March 15th.

The sign-up deadline is January 31, 2015. To sign up, click here to indicate the name you would like to use for the challenge (which does not have to be your fandom name) and the categories you are most interested in filling for and provide your email address to the challenge mod. If you are contributing something besides writing, indicate what that is as well.

Don’t take the list above as limiting. Any other suggested creative contribution (in case there’s someone out there who crochets or does flash animations or something) would also be welcomed.

You can state that you wish to write AND provide another kind of fill if you’re willing to fill a prompt in more than one category.

On February 1st, 21 winning prompts will be announced, one in each category. The prompts will be first come-first serve, with one writer and one multimedia filler being able to claim each one here on the meme. You can choose to write more than one fill for more than one category if you want. Fillers working on the same prompt are encouraged to be collaborative.

Written fills must be a minimum of 2500 words.
The deadline for all fills is March 15, 2015.

Once the prompts are all claimed, the fillers working on them will be announced to the kink meme community and there will be an open discussion area here on that prompt so that people can encourage you as you write, including offers to beta, new ideas or thoughts, and general cheerleading.

3. GENERAL CHEERLEADING AND WORD-SPREADING!

For this challenge to be successful, we need to bring back some people who may have left the kink meme or who may not realize one of their prompts is being boosted. We need to encourage writers and other fillers not just to sign up, but also to finish their fills. We may need pinch hitters and betas and additional organizers to catalogue the prompts nominated, etc. Primarily, we just need an active group of people willing to keep this meme and this challenge interesting.

So please spread the word even if you’re not participating, here and on Tumblr and in whatever fandom space you’re in with Daredevil fandom! And encourage the great conversations and community on this meme who make it what it is! This challenge is for everyone, and so we hope you all participate and enjoy it.

And it's not like Foggy knows any OTHER Matts who are blind. But maybe Matt finds out, and then he has to go on a hunt for visually impaired people named Matt in NYC, because -what if-, Foggy, and Foggy is heartbroken, because why is Matt being so quiet on the subject of -his- mark, huh? (Basically I am here for this prompt, doubly so if there's angst involved. :D)

The thing about a Braille mark is that he might not even know he has it.

Oh! Here's an idea:

Maybe marks are nebulous iridescent blobs for most of a person's life. Sometimes a name never shows up and it stays a weird abstract tattoo. Or maybe some people never had a mark to begin with, which is probably fairly common.

But Foggy, his case is weird. He had a shadowy mark, but when he was nine-ish it just - disappeared. The reigning theory is that his soulmate died, even though marks don't usually just disappear like that. It's really strange, and Foggy's only told the story to a very few close friends. For people he doesn't know well, he just says he doesn't have one and they likely assume that means he never had one.

Only what ACTUALLY happened is the mark started to make the transition from visual letters to Braille some time after Matt's accident. Foggy doesn't notice because, just like the vague blobs marks usually present as, his new mark takes a while to form itself into the bumps of Braille.

Matt...Matt might still have the abstract mark? Though I suppose his could be in Braille, too. But if it's the abstract mark, his ignorance of it may be due to something as simple as 1) he can't see it and 2) since he's started Daredevil he's stopped hooking up with people so there's no one to ask, hey, what the hell is a 'foggy'?

Claire would probably the first/only one to see his mark once the name finally resolves, but it's Claire - I could see her not wanting to cross that boundary, keeping that extra distance between her and Matt's personal matters. Also, she probably figured they would have jumped on that by now.

I bet Matt and Foggy have had the "so what's your soulmark like?" conversation, which means Matt knows Foggy has one because (a) Foggy told him the truth (but maybe not the details, just, "It disappeared when I was a kid") or (b), Foggy lied about it and Matt knows. (Why would Foggy lie about it? Maybe because "holy shit I think you might be The One even if I don't have the soulmark to prove it, and if you know that I used to have a soulmark, you'll think you're not him and UGH, MATT.")

Matt's could be in the Latin alphabet but a little raised so he could still read it once it resolves. The soulmarks could be very birthmark-like, so it might not be super unusual for them to be a little raised and bumpy. That means they would also look a lot like, you know, a normal birthmark, so it wouldn't be that surprising for someone (Matt's partners) to miss them and think they were just a sort of darker patch of skin.

Matt might avoid telling Foggy's about his for any number of reasons - maybe it's part of his training from Stick to "never get close to anyone" (because I bet Stick thought soulmarks were a major sign of weakness), maybe it has to do with his mother disappearing when he was a kid even though she and his dad were (or weren't) soulmates.

It could also get really angsty: Matt not wanting Foggy to be tied to him because Matt knows he's going to die young, Matt being afraid that Foggy will leave him once he finds out about Daredevil and thinking that telling him they're soulmates would basically be forcing Foggy to stay...

Claire's perspective on the whole thing would be super interesting. Is knowing about Matt's soulmark part of the reason she decides to push him away? And does Marci know/have suspicions about Foggy's?

I don't think Foggy would lie to Matt about it, especially if he thinks it means his soulmate is dead/gone. ("Or maybe they're like Captain America - buried in the ice! ...actually, that would really suck.") He doesn't realize his mark changed forms, he just thinks he's out of luck. Mysteries of the universe type of stuff.

Matt...I could see him just not wanting to know. Or maybe he thinks he'll be one of those people whose mark never resolves (which could be very common), because how could HE have a soulmate? I dunno, I like the idea of Matt not realizing Foggy's his match. He could think it's another way that life isn't fair - if anyone deserves a soulmate, he thinks, it's Foggy.

Branching out, there are probably a lot of schools of thought about the marks. Some think it's predetermined, but others think it's more like a stamp - the abstract pattern is just the ink that a HIGHLY compatible person's name gets pressed into. True match-ups could be very rare.

Or if you want to get real angsty about it - Stick burned Matt's mark off.

So, assuming Matt's mark isn't in a place where it's easily seen, if Claire's too professional to bring the mark up and Matt generally avoids thinking about it then...maybe Santino's the one who finally spills the beans?

Like, Claire's working on Matt but needs an extra pair of hands. Santino's there so he helps under Claire's direction. But he's still a teenage boy, so when he sees the mark he blurts it out.
