Matt and Punisher know each other's identities, and they hunt the same guy. They have the usual squabble about killing/no killing, but before it comes to a fight between them, the bad guy *somehow* manages to injure DD badly and is about to deliver the killing shot/blow, which is when Frank steps in and kills him. Only he gets hurt himself (but Matt doesn't notice) and when he manages to run when the police arrive, Frank doesn't. He gets arrested and will have to go on trial. The best he can hope for is a jail sentence, the worst is getting auctioned off as a slave/death penalty. Matt of course is there as soon as he hears this and offers to be Frank's lawyer for free, but the trial doesn't go particularly great. Matt manages to avoid a death sentence, but Frank has killed too many people to even be considered as eligible for any prison sentence (where he could manage to escape or maybe be released eventually, and prison is considered too cushy for someone like him anyway).

So Frank gets sentenced to slavery. And Matt has a little panic attack and buys him - if only to stop any future owner of Frank getting murdered as well... - before anybody else can.

Which means that now, blind lawyer Matt Murdock, is trying to pass Frank "The fucking Punisher" Castle off as 'um, yeah, that is my new...guiding slave. Finally got one. His name is Frank. Say hi to Foggy and Karen, Frank.' and is torn between how to get Frank to obey him to Stop Fucking Killing People, Frank, and still treat him vaguely decently, because Frank only is in this predicament because he saved Matt's life.
