Matt gets into a relationship with someone (Electra? Frank Castle?) who starts abusing him, but Foggy, Claire, Father Lantom et al. assume that his injuries are just the usual Daredevil ones. Those who don't know that he's Daredevil (Karen, Brett, Marci?) don't understand why they aren't more concerned.

HAHA OMG YES. This is twice as painful because it would mean Matt's in a committed relationship with someone who hurts him regularly, but also Matt would kind of accept this because this is MATT, so maybe that's the reason why he stays in the relationship, because they're being physically harsh with him, so good luck trying to convince him that it's not healthy or sane and he needs to get away from that person.

as someone who can't see matt having any relationship w/ frank castle other than an abusive one, SECONDED. i'd give my left arm for a character pointing out how a lot of frank's habits actually constitute physical abuse (for example not giving a shit about matt's body autonomy and just fucking knocking him out whenever he considers matt too irksome to handle).

i mean like. this may just be my personal issues with frank manifesting themselves but yeah his relationship with matt is actually super creepy and abusive lmao.

Oh HOLY SHIT YES!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who wants to see this. I think the thing I'm most excited about for the second season is the massive increase in these types of prompts that will come with it...

(Also helps that both Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal are insanely hot and will undoubtedly set the screen on fire together.)


Though I have to admit, as much as I can see Frank being a super creepy and abusive lover to Matt, I can also picture him being the opposite. Frank's an extreme kind of guy.

ayrt: weirdly enough i don't think jon bernthal's much to look at but that's pretty much because the only way i would find the punisher tolerable in any way is if tom hardy played him.

i'm really sorry if i come off kind of abrasive talking about this D: it's just that the punisher reminds me of a really unsavory person i used to be friends with so now all i want are fics where matt gets the fuck away from frank and into the arms of someone who won't, like, pop him full of sleep darts or tie him to support beams without his consent.

OP here.

I have only heard of Frank Castle third-hand through fandom--I've never read any of the comics or anything. So I would be interested to see either interpretation of his and Matt's relationship...or maybe both? I don't think that even Matt would stay in a relationship with someone who was only ever abusive, abrasive, and awful, so maybe Frank has his really really sweet moments...but also his really, really scary ones. And poor Matt isn't sure what to do, especially when Claire doesn't bat an eye at the injuries he gets from him, when Father Lantom doesn't respond with nearly enough indignation when Matt tries to allude to how he's being hurt, and when even Foggy seems to think there's nothing to be concerned about...

I picture it being both. From what I've read so far, Frank and Matt are extremely violent towards each other, but where Matt always tries to fight fairly, Frank will cheat to win. It takes on an abusive note because Matt believes Frank is redeemable, and Frank will sometimes use that to manipulate him. Frank's also very good at taking advantage of Matt's moral insecurities and shaky mental health.

I can actually see Matt allowing himself to be trapped in the relationship, hoping that by staying with Frank he'd be able to save and redeem him. If anyone's going to help him get out of it, I picture one (or more) of the other heroes: maybe Jessica, Luke and Danny realize what's going on, or Spider-Man sees it and turns to them for help, or maybe Captain America picks up on it when he's forced to work with the two of them (Cap considers Matt a friend in the comics but he despises Frank- so finding out Frank's abusing Matt would lead to an epic beat-down).

DA has started working on a fill that I was hoping would be 5+1 but I'm struggling with 5 people who know about Matt being Daredevil and who I can write so it's currently on track to be more like 4+1, and an Avengers crossover because I'm not familiar with the Defenders.

By which I mean it will feature Captain America and have mentions of other Avengers. I was going to have one of the 4 who didn't realise be Iron Man but if you aren't fond I will think of something else.

Sounds great! Don't worry about throwing in Iron Man, he's cool. What I meant before was that I don't really want a fic that turns into an Avengers fic involving Matt, because that's really not my fandom. But Captain America and Bruce Banner are fine all the time, and Tony Stark is okay in small doses.

Will anyone be including the comfort in this is or is that a different prompt? Because this prompt seems to be more about the hurt and finding out about it, but I'd like the comfort bits too

There was something wrong with Matt. Admittedly, that sentence was always relevant and never far from Foggy's mind, but Matt was usually better at hiding injuries than this. Following him up the stairs to Matt's apartment (because of course the elevator is out, of course it is) he could tell that Matt was favoring his right leg, using his left hand to support himself on the handrail.

"So does Claire know about your leg?" An educated guess, sure, but Matt's hesitation was enough confirmation to send a spike of annoyance through Foggy. "I thought you weren't going out last night."

Matt had already started climbing again when he shrugged. "Hadn't planned to." They mounted the next flight of stairs and Foggy hoped Matt could feel his disapproving glare. He would never heal if he didn't rest.

It was a Sunday afternoon and Audrey was concerned. Matthew had been to Mass every Sunday this year, until last week amid sticky July. And here he was, speeding from the church without even stopping when she said hello!

At the café they liked (ten of them and sometimes Father Lantom had been lunching together after Mass for a while now) it was the first thing anyone mentioned. Audrey caught the end of what Patricia was saying before they even sat down: "...his eye?"

Audrey nodded and piped up before Louise could butt in, "Do you think we should call someone?" Social services? The police? But nobody had time to suggest anything at all before the Father was clearing his throat.

"I don't know if you ladies know this, but Matthew is an amateur boxer. It's not surprising he gets a few bruises from it." As if they didn't know that! The boy was friendly enough to have had an invitation to lunch for more than a month now, and it was onky a matter of time until he accepted. No, the ladies knew him quite well: blind, lawyer, boxer, good sense of humour, and (Louise insisted) gay as a daisy. (Audrey had her doubts about that last one.)

"He must take more care, then! Perhaps if you had a word with him, Father?"

The Father laughed. "If I could persuade him of that, Audrey, it would be a miracle." The waitress arrived to take their orders. (Nine paninis and a baked potato for Joyce, who couldn't have gluten.)

The chatter turned to other things, but Audrey couldn't quite let go of the image of blind Matthew Murdock with that bruise spilling out from behind his glasses.

Wow, I'm so glad you decided to fill this! This is off to such a great start--I really like the church ladies in the second part especially. What a good idea to have the concerned OC be the POV instead of the actual subject of the entry!

I'm interested to see how you go about revealing what's actually going on, because none of these characters so far seem to even know that Matt is dating anyone. How will they find out? You have to go on, I'm begging you! T_T
