Fill: Clear and Honest Communication 9/13(?)

Classes start...well today, so updates will either all happen really really soon or slow down loads. We'll see. I'm still on track with parts at least!

The day is definitely theirs. Everything goes perfectly. Right up until the moment comes for them to go home.

Karen leaves first, citing a need to see Doris Urich. And we're making her nervous Matt points out as she flees the building.

Which, yeah okay. Foggy can see. They've been having silent conversations all day and the moving in unison thing is probably pretty freaky if you're not the one moving. But Karen is tough. She'll adjust.

Certainty. Matt smiles as he pulls on his coat and grabs his cane. Then he freezes. Home/Foggys/Daredevil? Foggy can feel an itch under his skin; Matt's itch to get out onto the streets. But there's fear...

Go be a hero proudscaredwantsafe. I'll go... home. I'll go ho-

But Foggy can feel that Matt can feel Foggy's reluctance to go home. For some reason it feels... wrong to imagine just separating and having separate lives. Which is worrying.

Or it should be. Should be so worrying. Only it's not and that's nearly as worrying. Come to mine. We can figure this out there.

Good plan. You're very good Mattbestideas at plans. Foggy slips his arm into Matt's, feeling Matt's delight in the contact. Chinese?

Matt makes a face at the place Foggy has in mind. Foggy gets a taste of dirt and oh yuck, never eating there again. Thai he throws back and it's Foggy's turn because that place is way too pricey for him. Even if, oh huh, it's about the only Thai place Matt knows that he's able to stand.

They bicker good-naturedly the entire way back, both well aware they're going to end up ordering pizza from the one place in Hell's Kitchen they both like. Matt catches Foggy thinking that and flashes a taste of their pepperoni pizza over to him. He starts drooling right there in the middle of the street and loses focus.

Matt nudges him into attention as they approach his apartment. I may be able to handle icancopeiamaloneicandothis myself but it looks odd if the one leading is the blind guy. With a laugh, Foggy focuses as they make their way upstairs. He orders the pizza as Matt changes out of his work clothes.

It's about an hour after they've eaten, when night has well and truly taken hold of Hell's Kitchen, when Matt starts to fidget. Foggy can feel the anxiety building in him and knows/ishim he's keeping an ear out for the screams of the city. His city.

'Go,' Foggy finally whispers, after Matt focuses in on the place he keeps his suit for the third time in ten minutes. 'Matt, I won't keep you here. Go.'

You hatefearanger don't like me being Daredevil. I'm not going to make-

Suddenly angry, Foggy drowns out Matt's thoughts with his own. NO angerWRONGno nononono. WRONG. He pauses, to try and organise his thoughts before realising how stupid this is when talking to someone witnessing the organising and just goes for it. I'm madangryscared at you for lying to me. I'm angryscaredterrified about what's going to happen if you get hurt or caught. I don't like hatedisbeliefresigned that you take the law loverespectfear into your own hands. But... I don't hate Daredevil. Foggy sighs. I'm not going to stop you Buddy. 'Go.'

There's so much doubt in Matt's mind but he can sense Foggy's not lying - in fact Foggy's not sure they could use this to lie to another - and that Foggy's not going to stop him going. Slowly, Matt rises and moves towards his cupboard. He pauses only once, just before he takes it out and Foggy is about to prompt him when he bows his head. For a second, Foggy can feel Matt's faith in God, as he prays for guidance and well... for a vaguely agnostic Protestant, it's not something he has the words or thoughts to describe. He finds himself coping Matt's movements as he crosses himself and has to slam his hands down.

'Be safe,' Foggy calls as Matt makes his way to his roof, in his Daredevil suit.

'Always am,' Matt both thinks and says, creating a double layer of meaning that Foggy has to pick through. It's enough to distract him from Matt leaving.

It's not enough to distract him from Matt jumping off the roof. Startled by the sensation in his mind, Foggy accidentally pushes at Matt's mind and nearly causes him to mistime his landing.

Foggy!

Accidentsorrydidntmeanto Foggy can feel Matt's mental sigh.

Either block me out or stay really close. Then Matt's off again, running for the next roof. Foggy has a split second to decide.

He pushes forward so he becomes they. Together they flip onto the next roof, certain in their knowledge of Hell's Kitchen and their senses. They don't even need to listen to know to duck the metal bar as they sprint along the rooftop. It's here they stop, listening and waiting for a signal as to wh-

A scream breaks the night; like a siren to them. They focus, narrowing down the location of the... the child.

Anger floods Matt, stronger than anything Foggy's felt and it throws them back into he. He gasps in surprise at the sheer amount of anger his friend is feeling and opens his eyes. Foggy's surprised to be in Matt's apartment.

So's Matt. Nofocusignore Foggy? It takes Foggy a millisecond to realise Matt's focus is divided so he closes his eyes and tries to go back into being them.

It doesn't work. But there's enough space between them that Matt can block Foggy out as he dashes across roofs towards the little girl now begging her kidnapper for her mother. Matt pauses above them

Then he strikes.

Foggy chokes at the delight that floods Matt as his first punch lands; the joy in achieving something and stopping a monster. It doesn't fade, even as the punches keep coming.

Matt, STOP, he finally cries and Matt freezes. Foggy knows saying this creep has had enough won't help - and frankly a part of him that might be Matt's influence doesn't think he has had enough - so he uses another tactic. Matt, the girl!

She's okay. Elevated heartbeat, tears, smell of urine but no blood. Foggy fearupsetguilt you need to block me out.

Foggy knows he does. He can't stay in Matt's mind while he does this and Matt can't focus if there's not something blocking them.

Come home to me. Foggy begins to count his breaths, count his heartbeats and do as much as possible to ground himself in his own body and keep out of Matt's mind.

It doesn't block everything out, but it helps.

********

Matt stays out as long as he can justify while also trying to keep as much of his emotions and thoughts to himself as he can. It doesn't work... he can feel Foggy's flinches and distress every time a punch lands and his constant fear of Matt's anger.

Damn it Matt, come home! Foggy finally snaps, when the clock is nearing four. Slowly Matt makes his way across the roofs, choosing the safest - and longest - route home. I know what you're doing annoyingscaredpleasecomehome Matt.

He picks up his pace. Foggy is waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs. Matt can't feel much of his emotions. There's a sense of relief that Matt isn't seriously hurt - no more than a bruise or two easily hidden by clothes - but no other concrete emotion/thought that Matt can pin down.

Mask off. I want friendlovesoft Matt for this conversation not fearangerrespect Daredevil.

There's not much difference. Matt takes off the mask and raises his head so his eyes meet Foggy's.

Foggy pulls him into a hug and he freezes. Confusionguilt Foggyfearnangerwhyreactinglikethis?

Friendshiprelieflovealivereliefrelief 'This is because you absolutely deserve a hug Matty and I never realised exactly how bad your temper was.'

Devilinme 'I try and keep a lid on it normally.'

Goodmannodevil Anger is natural Bud. Foggy finally releases him. 'Have you ever considered not keeping a lid on it? That way, you won't feel the need to punch bad guys quite so much.' Maybe a bit less punching?

Confusion. You're not abandonedalonefear leaving? Matt slowly makes his way to his bedroom to change, aware of Foggy's eyes - both mental and physical - on him the entire way.

NOTLEAVING friendshipforeverstaying 'I'm in this for the long haul Murdock.' Foggy collapses on his lounge with a sigh. 'But we really need to figure out a way to get some separation here.' Guilt floods Matt as he thinks about how much of his hate and anger he forced Foggy to feel.

Only Foggy's not having it. NODEVIL 'No guilt Matt, because no regrets here.' He reaches out a hand to Matt, who dumps his suit into its place and takes the offered hand. Foggy pulls him down onto the lounge. Noguilt. This is a guilt free zone.

Matt has to smile. Guilt free? For us both?

Foggy nods. 'No guilt,' he says aloud, as if speaking the words will give them more power. I chose this, for better or worse. We'll friendsagainsttheworld figure it out. For a moment, he remembers the feeling of Matt's rage and shivers.

It takes all Matt has not to reflexively apologise and beg forgiveness. He's no right to ask for forgiveness and Foggy's made it clear he doesn't want apologies.

Nothing to forgive Pal. Foggy yawns and his tiredness sweeps over Matt too as the last of the adrenaline rush leaves him. Matt yawns too. Bedtime. Slowly Foggy gets up and helps Matt to his feet.

'We'll talk in the morning. Proper talk,' he manages to say through his yawns. There's no hesitation in heading for Matt's; it's a given Foggy will be sharing it tonight.

The moment they cross the threshold to Matt's room, Foggy sends Matt all his tiredness. Annoyed, Matt sends it back, creating another feedback loop. They barely make it to his bed before the loop reaches a point that consciousness is impossible for either man.

Love.

Love.
