I'm not the op, but do you mind if I comment? I'd love if it went down the option b path - marriage unreconcilable but Matt gets custody of their little girl. Maybe Foggy feels so guilty that he doesn't fight for custody, and their daughter felt that it was his fault the marriage failed and hates him for what he did to Matt. And maybe the connection was always more between Matt and their daughter - he wanted to adopt her and he related to her better cause he was also an orphan and he reduced his work hours or something in order to raise her? And even though it's all going to hell, he's trying to keep it together for her, and on one level if he didn't have her, he wouldn't be able to function, but because she's there he can imagine it's all going to be ok.
