That's a really interesting observation to make. It makes a lot of sense too, considering communication is 90% non-verbal. Matt can't gauge how a person is reacting to a joke from their body language. He can't see their grins, their anticipation, where their eyes are being directed, so doing a long winded joke would be very hard thing to do.
