A bit of an inconvenient question, maybe, but is there even such a thing as a rectal thermometer? I'm no expert, but I always thought the thermometers you use rectally can just as well be used orally or axillary. I mean, yes, of course no one is keen to use one orally when you know it has been up someone's butt before, but to me it just sounds weird to say "rectal thermometer". Unless these things exist and I've never heard of them. :-)
