Though with the 'My parents are religious and that's why I am not' comment I always headcanoned her parents as the extreme 'Everything that happens is God's will'-type and that totally includes serious/fatal illnesses and stuff like 'you did not pray hard d enough for it to happen/You were bad so God thought you didn't deserve what you prayed for'
