we still do use wank, though, but not to mean literally jacking off. people say "fandom wank" for example = a figurative circlejerk. but calling someone a wanker or using wank as a verb seems to be a british thing.

The old paperbacks I used to sneak from the back of the rec room's library were totally all of these and worse, but newer ones tend to be better and more self-aware when it comes to themes and style. But, fuck, some of those 80s ones? All of the girls had flashing violet-golden-amber eyes and long raven-copper-cherry tresses, they were all so plucky you wanted them to go pluck themselves, and the men were all like GRR ARRG A WOMAN DONE ME WRONG AND SO I HATE ALL WOMEN BUT YOUR POON IS MAGICAL AND THUSLY ONLY YOU CAN SAVE ME AND HEAL MY TRAGIC PAST.

(fair warning, because i know a fair percentage of you are < 20yrs old: the older, cracky romance novels? like. if we organized fiction by ao3 tags instead of genre - WHICH WOULD MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE - 90% of this old skool romance would be tagged dub/noncon? SEEK IT OUT but be aware, i guess? :D )

Oh gods yes, yes it definitely would. And not even as thoughtfully handled as a lot of fic can be. Not all, but most. Whereas older romance usually glosses completely over the super problematic lack of consent.

And I really wish bookstores would get with the program as regards organizing and categorizing things. Fandom has SUCH a better handle on those things because it's constantly evolving and responding to things as they happen, whereas the publishing industry just has BISAC and we get to make our own tags and yes. Ahem. Anyway. You are correct.

With the comics it really kind of depends on the writer. I've only picked up a couple DD comics so far, but they both touched on his devotion at least a bit (one of them quite a lot- he's shown wearing a cross and contemplating his beliefs, he's referred to by others as a "merry Christian" etc. However, this focus on his religious side was juxtaposed with his struggle to be honest with his friends and guilt over cheating on his gf, so it's clearly a war within himself).

As someone else pointed out, he becomes more devoted to Catholicism throughout the series- which could add some serious weight to his conflict with Frank Castle in season 2. Frank's also Catholic, but he doesn't feel guilt over the horrible things he does because he's basically accepted that he'll go to Hell. Also, Father Lantom acts as Frank's priest in the comics, not just Matt's. Which is great because I love Father Lantom :)

Oh HOLY SHIT YES!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who wants to see this. I think the thing I'm most excited about for the second season is the massive increase in these types of prompts that will come with it...

(Also helps that both Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal are insanely hot and will undoubtedly set the screen on fire together.)

Though I have to admit, as much as I can see Frank being a super creepy and abusive lover to Matt, I can also picture him being the opposite. Frank's an extreme kind of guy.

Oh, Karen and Jessica would definitely egg them on.

I'm imagining Matt trying to squirm away as Foggy resolutely unbuttons Matt's pants, while Karen is trying to decide if she should help Foggy hold Matt in place, go in the other room or try to calm Matt down.

I need this so bad.

Foggy ends up in the hospital with shrapnel in his side during Condemned. They couldn't find Matt in all the chaos and Matt was busy with Vladimir.

What happened after Matt escaped? Did he go looking for Foggy and Karen? Were they not where he thought they would be or did he finally get a chance to listen to his phone messages? Was he scared? Was his mind racing? Was he racked with more guilt because he wasn't there and he should have been? What was it like when he tracked them down at the hospital and ended up getting fussed over by Foggy when it was Foggy in the damn hospital bed?

Fuck me up guys. I need it.

I need this. I his hasn't been explored in fic enough (I read exactly one on AO3 once but I have the link anymore so if someone can help...and I just need more of that)

Actually, the rain messes up his radar sence and makes everything kinda fuzzy. In the comics, at least. But a lot of people do seem to have gone the other way in fic.

Assuming you're female as well, and for the fact that I'm not actually bi or lesbian, I'm not sure I would say yes, but, hey, at least it's legal now. :-D But if not a committed relationship, I'm happy to have all the whump fans over at my place for a regular get-together and a rewatch of episode 10. ayrt: hoooo boy, this is making me feel like i was literally born yesterday. i was always rather....particular about what i read and therefore if i ever wanted something gross/smutty i turned to fanfiction.net (back in the golden days of that godforsaken website, lmao), my stepsister read danielle steele novels and nicolas sparks is popular amongst my age group but freaky medieval penny dreadful smut is something i think i missed entirely. not sure if that's really such a bad thing, though.

rain enhancing his senses comes from the shitty 2003 film, amusingly enough.

I admit I totally missed the 'first confession in a while'-bit and then I sort of went along with almost-collectiv headcanon (never read the comics so I perhaps foolishly assumed the others knew better than I XD)

On the other hand there's also Foggy' line about 'somebody as Catholic as you' so he must have somehow picked up something (perhaps Matt had been in reevaluating his religion for a while pre-series-start and only decided to take the step of going to church/confession in Ep. 1)
Or...the writer just screwed up there.

ayrt: weirdly enough i don't think jon bernthal's much to look at but that's pretty much because the only way i would find the punisher tolerable in any way is if tom hardy played him.

i'm really sorry if i come off kind of abrasive talking about this D: it's just that the punisher reminds me of a really unsavory person i used to be friends with so now all i want are fics where matt gets the fuck away from frank and into the arms of someone who won't, like, pop him full of sleep darts or tie him to support beams without his consent.

Haha, I love the idea of Foggy running after Jake trying to discourage him from danger. Jake would totally keep running after Daredevil, even if injured, so Foggy is just like "Noooo not you too! Why do I attract people with no instinct for self preservation? What is my life!?"

ALL I CAN SAY IS SO. GOOD.
