Karen and Wesley used to date. Maybe they met while Karen was in college? But they hit it off and fell hard for each other.Wesley even introduces her to Frisk. But somewhere along the way Karen begins to figure out Wesley is keeping secrets from her and decides to end it before she gets hurt. They next meet during the time of the show. Wesley still has it pretty bad.

Basically Karen and Wesley were super happy before his keeping secrets and her not knowing about his job got in the way. Now Wesley wants her back.
