ooohhhh that arc sounds...distressing. actual american horror story.
(...but now that i'm considering it: THE POLICE THEMSELVES would be even more violent and arbitrary and you could really play up the WHO KNOWS WHAT THE COPS ARE GONNA DO WHEN/IF THEY GET HERE and THAT COP JUST SHOT THAT DUDE FOR LITERALLY NO REASON, but i feel like matt would be...not safer, but far more cautious, I think?
white!matt...hm. What am I trying to say? Just. The. when he finds small-time badguys and says things like "turn yourself in to the police or i'll hunt you down," that particular kind of trust in the system even after he realizes that some cops are crooked, the obsession with getting information/dirt on fisk so he can expose him to the public like that's the end game, it - is it naivete? Is that the word I'm looking for?
like. the idea of a black man COVERING HIS FACE and going out at night to fight street crime, in this day and age, in this atmosphere, fills me with crazy anxiety. would foggy and matt still wrestle with that "am I doing this because the system is corrupt and i must go outside the system for justice, or am I doing it because i've got a mean temper and an itchy punching fist?" moral dilemma?
weirdly, too, i think that if foggy had grown up in hell's kitchen and spent years with not!white!matt, his reactions to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen would've been far more sympathetic, because the chances that he'd have been exposed to the idea that the media and police are biased against anyone non-white would be higher?
(aw man. can you imagine the FRENZY. people get panicky about white terrorists, but if fisk spun it onto black matt, you could do the episode where whole neighborhoods are getting shut down and every cop in fifty miles is going door-to-door trying to flush The Terrorist out.)
oh god. i gotta stay in my lane. white girl talking, scuse me.
