(It didn't help when he started getting psychic flashes from her spiritual battles or something in Elektra Lives Again.) Elektra's death was the catalyst that started Matt's mental break--in Born Again, Kingpin notes there is a fissure in the vigilante's mind and attacks him to increase it.
