This is really just my attempt at part 2 a second time. Part 2 is where I'm having a really, really hard time balancing the upsettness I feel about this other kinkmeme and the knowledge and explanations I need to include. It's easier for me to write it out while explaining to someone else what is wrong or even what they *shives* did wrong. And that's NOT how I want to come across.
So, part three:
Kinkmeme Etiquette is in place because kinkmemes need a delicate balance between rules and freedom. Too many rules, even ones unrelated to prompting, can make it feel like too strict a place where the energy of the kinkmeme is hampered. So many rules go unspoken. Including the ones that you don’t play kinkmeme police and take up these matters of etiquette anywhere but with the mods.
However, not enough rules can cause wank and negativity which also kills kinkmeme because no one wants to write for such a hostile, sucky place.
Most of the time letting the users of the kinkmeme set the pace works fine. But it just takes one ass hole to make it a hell hole everyone and so slowly but surely drive users away. So, lets go over what kinkmeme etiquette is.
1.) Never ever call something someone is doing “plugging” if real plugging or spaming is going on the mods will handle it. If there are no mods around to handle it then the kinkmeme has bigger problems going on than that one person who wrote a fic based on two prompts instead of the usual one.
2.) Rec-ing is allowed unless stated otherwise in the rules or by the prompter. If you don’t wants recs than say that. If someone else didn’t say they didn’t want recs than assume that they want recs. Or, if you’d rather, ask if recs are expectable before recing. But remember that the lurkers probably want recs, so consider that as well.
3.) Linking to a fic or outside source of inspiration in a prompt is a very good thing to do. If it’s a fic than it’s important to credit the original author with the idea you want repeated. It’s also important because a filler, luker, so forth, might not be familiar with the fic and if they like your prompt they will like your fic.
4.) If you have nothing to add to a discussion than don’t start a discussion. There are several ways to indicate that you’re voicing an opinion or support for another person’s opinion while making it clear that that’s all you had to say and aren’t interested in continuing. “+1″ is for more than just the prompt post.
5.) If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. This goes back to those stated rules of “Don’t be a dick” “DLDR” and “YKINMKATOK”. This mostly comes up with headcannons for characters. If you don’t like autistic!Matt or Max or trans! so-and-so don’t say anything. If you want to talk about why you don’t think those are realistic headcannons than go to your own blog and rant about it there. Doing it on the discussion post may be seen as taking wank to another part of the forum and is generally a rude thing to do anyway.
