Re: DD viewing #2139 and noticing new things

\o/ Yaaaas! Now you've made me want to watch World On Fire (aka the explodey episode), too. I'll put that on my agenda this week. Please feel free to come drop thinky thoughts if you do have time to watch it? I would love any fresh insight.

I just watched the Stick episode, it had been awhile, and it shreds me every time to think if Stick has stayed and finished training him the way Matt wanted, Matt might very well have turned into the killer Stick wanted. (Also, Veneration is an A+++ fic and I would do just about anything to see it finished. It's not finished, is it? I have to go look. My poor broken Matthew, omg. That story is deep and awful and all too real and just damned well-written.)

But I think about Stick leaving and not being clear about his reasons for abandoning Matt even when Matt asks him point blank and I have questions. Why does Stick keep creeper tabs on Matt after all this time (as he discusses Matt with Stone, it's obvs Stick might have gone to NY to hunt down Black Sky, but Stone was expecting a report on Matt, so Matt was part of Stick's agenda, too.). I mean, if Matt's such a damned failure to Stick, then why the hell does Stick still have plans for Matt 20 years later? WHY LEAVE? Why does he know where Matt is at any given time? (He accidentally bumped into Matt accosting Owlsley in the parking garage? Nope, not buying it.) Even after Matt kicked Stick's ass, Stick still has plans to use Matt in his war, apparently regardless of what Matt wants? IDEK I have a lot of harsh feelings about this. It's not directly stated on the show, there's a tiny bit of ambiguity when Stick refuses to answer Matt's question about how Stick found Matt, but in the comics Stick has been stalking Matt even before he had the accident that blinded him. The chemical spill, according to Stick, didn't give Matt anything that wasn't his due destiny, and Matt's destiny was decided when he was born. I wonder if the show will apply any of that to why Matt's mother abandoned him when he was a baby.

Every time I watch 'Stick', what hurts so much is the way Stick grabs Matt, we hear bb!Matt tell Stick to stop, that Stick's hurting him, adult Matt breaks the hold and readies himself for a fight, and then after calling Stick a dick, Stick asks for a beer and Matt smiles a little, his voice softens and he relaxes, and I realise OMG THIS VIOLENTLY ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP IS NORMAL FOR MATT. Violent daddy issues, Matt has them.

My friend with the wise ideas is actually fairly Christian, whilst I'm not religious but a recovering Catholic. But I looooove all the religious ideology in the show. I have such a love for Matt's relationship with Father Latte and their deep discussions. I'm so bouncy thinking of Frank Castle in S2 and how he also used to be Catholic to the point of wanting to be a priest, and how Frank and Matt are going to have some nasty little differences of opinion and faith. This show, man.
